MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
Human brains have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to keep us alive and enable us to perform amazing feats of invention, problem solving and analysis. But if we become too attached to the solutions our minds provide to problems like anxiety, grief, depression and trauma, we find that our lives narrow instead of expand. If we take our minds' suggestions for keeping us safe too seriously, we begin to avoid people and situations that bring up distressing thoughts, intrusive memories and painful feelings.
As we habitually avoid more experiences, the things we yearn for most deeply - creative expression, human connection and love, community care - begin to seem further out of reach. We are not our emotions, but they can offer us invaluable insight into our personal principles and enhance our understanding of the world around us. If you are willing to begin to explore the uncomfortable sensations and spaces in your mind, body and consciousness, we can work together to start making choices and taking actions that are aligned with your true values.
